Life of Jesus story #24
The Temple building stood in a vast courtyard. This was
the only place where non-Jews could pray. Here money-chargers had set up their
scales and traders sold lambs and birds for Temple sacrifices. They often
charged too much and made an unfair profit. Jesus knew what he had to do. He
strode into the Temple and threw them all out. You've turned the house of
prayer into a robbers den he shouted. This was very thing the Old Testament
preachers had said the Messiah would do. The religious leaders trembled. We
must kill him they said. Jesus spent the night the night back in Bethany. Jesus
throws the traders out of the temple.. In addition, Jesus went back to the
Temple courtyard and talked to the crowds of people. The Pharisees and
Sadducees tried to trap him with trick questions but he was too clever for
them.
