The shepherd

The Shepherds  

On this night there were shepherds watching their sheep in the fields near Bethlehem. An angel came down to them from the Lord. The brightness of the Lord’s glory shined around them. The shepherds fell to their knees and put their Hands over their eyes. They were very frightened. But the angel said, Don’t afraid I have good news for you which will make everyone happy. This very day in the city of David a Savior was born for you. He is Christ the Lord. You will know who he is because you will find him lying on a bed of hay. Suddenly many other angels came down from Heaven. They said, Praise God in Heaven Peace on earth to everyone who pleases God. The shepherds went to Bethlehem. They found Jesus lying on a bed of hay in a manger. They told Mary and Joseph what the angels had said about their son. Mary thought about this. She  wondered what it meant. As the shepherds went back to their sheep they could not stop talking about  the baby and praising God.

Jesus is born 

It was almost time For Mary’s baby to be born. But he would not be born in Nazareth. Israel Was part of the Roman empire. The Roman leader was the Emperor Caesar Augustus. He wanted all the people in the empire to pay taxes to Rome. But first everyone had to go their own hometown to be counted. Mary’s husband Joseph had to go to Bethlehem in  Judea Bethlehem had been King David’s home and Joseph was from  David’s Family. It was a long journey After three days Joseph and Mary came to the city of David but there was nowhere for them to stay. Finally a kindly innkeeper allowed them to stay in his barn. And there in a barn in Bethlehem Jesus was born. Mary laid him on a bed of hay in a manger.

The birth of Jesus 

Luke 2:1-7 At that time Emperor AugASstus ordered a census to be taken throughout the Roman Empire. When this first census took place.  Quirinius was the governor of Syria. Everyone then went to register himself each to his own hometown. Joseph went from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to there town of place of King David went there Bethlehem in Judea the birthplace of King David. Joseph went there because he was a register with Mary who was promised in marriage to him. She was pregnant and while they were in Bethlehem the time came for her to have her baby. She gave birth to her first son wrapped him  in cloths and laid him in a manger there was no room for them to stay in the inn.

A Son for Elizabeth 

For many months Elizabeth’s husband, Zechariah could not talk at all. It was just as the angel Gabrial had said. Then Elizabeth’s baby was born. The people in her family said he should be named Zechariah after his father. But Elizabeth told them, No his name is John. Her relatives couldn’t believe it. No one in the family had ever been named John. They asked Zechariah what the baby’s name should be. Zechariah picked up a tablet and wrote His name is John. And all of a sudden Zechariah  could Speak again His praised God. Now everyone knew his son John was special. They knew the Lord was with him.

A message for Mary 

Four weeks later God sent Gabriel to  the Town of Nazareth in Galilee. A young woman named Mary lived Gabriel had a message for Mary too. He said to her Don’t be afraid. God is pleased with you and will have a son. His name will be Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of God Most High. 

Mary did not understand these words. How can this be she asked. The angel answered The holy spirit will come down to you and God’s powers will faith in God. I am the Lord servant she told Gabriel Let it happen as you have said. Mary sang a song to praise God. With all my heart I praise the Lord and I am glad because of God cares for me. From now on all people will say  God blessed me.  

Christmas 1

Good News from the Angel Gabriel-When Herod the great was king of the land called Judea there lived an old man by the name of Zechariah. His wife was Elizabeth. They had no children. Zechariah and Elizabeth were good people. They tried hard to obey the laws of the Lord God. God saw this and He was pleased with them. One day Zechariah was in the Lord’s Temple. He was serving as a priest that day. Suddenly an angel from the Lord came down and stood near him. Zechariah didn’t know what to do. Don’t be afraid the angel said. I am Gabriel God’s servant and I was sent to tell you good news. Your wife Elizabeth is  going to have a son. You will call him John. He will be a great servant to God. Because of him people who do  not Obey God will change their ways. John will get people ready for the Lord. Zechariah was amazed But my wife and I are both very old he said how will I know this is going to happen. The angel answered You do not believe and so you will not be able to say anything until the child is born. When Zechariah left the Temple he could not speak a word. When he wanted to say something he had to write  it On a writing tablet. Soon Elizabeth discovered she was expecting a baby just as the angel had promised. She was amazed and happy. 

Joseph 4

Pharoah was so pleased by Joseph’s skill that he immediately took Joseph out of jail and made him a prince. Now back home. Joseph’s brothers had run out of food and everyone was hungry. God’s special family was in  danger if they didn’t food soon they would starve to death. So Joseph’s brothers traveled to Egypt to buy food. They came and knelt before the new prince. His brothers didn’t know that the prince was Joseph. But Joseph knew who they were. Joseph’s dream the one about  his Brothers bowing down to him was coming true. It’s me Joseph cried. When they saw it was Joseph His Brothers Were Afraid. They had wronged Joseph. They had sinned and they knew it. Now Joseph would certainly punish them. But Joseph looked at his brothers and his eyes filled with tears. Even though his brothers had hurt him and hated him and wanted him dead in spite of everything he couldn’t stop loving them. His heart which they had broken filled up with love and Joseph forgive them.
